LASIK Scottsdale

Preparing for LASIK Scottsdale Treatment
If you are booked in for LASIK Scottsdale surgery, you may now be wondering how you should prepare. Ideally your surgeon should have told you everything that you need to know. If you haven’t yet talked to a surgeon about the preparation then below you will find the basics of what you should do before your surgery.

The Examination
Before you actually have the surgery, your surgeon will carry out a consultation. Your eyes will be examined and you will also need to give your eye health history too. This is to ensure that your current prescription has been constant for the last year. If your eyes have changed within a year then you may not be an ideal candidate for the surgery.

When the surgeon examines your eyes, they will create a map that will be used during surgery. The map of your eyes tells the surgeon how to perform the operation and it gives accurate results. A typical examination checks for irregularities in the eyes. The refractive problem will be analyzed to see how serious it is. Then your pupil and corneal will be measured. It is important to note that if you have particularly thin corneas, you may not be able to have LASIK Scottsdale surgery. Your tear function will also be analyzed due to the risk of dry eye after the surgery.

Once the consultation and examination have been carried out, you can then start to prepare for the surgery.

Preparing for Treatment
Your surgeon will give you notes on how to prepare for the operation. They should have pointed out all of the risks involved and what is expected of you. A few weeks before the surgery you should not wear contact lenses. The lenses could affect the shape of the cornea and this could in turn damage the success of the operation. The less you wear the contact lenses, the more natural the shape of your cornea will be. If you wear hard contact lenses then you should stop using them four weeks before the surgery. Soft contact lenses can be stopped two weeks before the surgery. Finally gas permeable lenses should be stopped 3 weeks before the surgery.

When you reach the day before your LASIK Scottsdale operation, you should stop wearing makeup. It is also advised to not use lotions and perfumes too. This is because these products could cause debris to get into the eye.

Even though the surgery is an outpatient procedure, you will still need to arrange transportation to and from the clinic. You may have some trouble adjusting to your new vision for a few days after the surgery. For that reason it is also a good idea to book a few days off work. Many people do choose to go back to work the day after the operation but it will depend upon the job that you do and how quickly you recover.

When the actual day arrives, make sure that you eat a light meal. Ensure that you wear your hair down as some accessories could cause problems with your head positioning. Your eyes will be measured once more before the surgery is performed. You will also be asked whether you have any more questions or concerns. If not then you will be given anesthetic eye drops and a sedative if required. It is important to contact the clinic if you do not feel well on the day of the operation.

These are the main factors that you need to think about when you book LASIK Scottsdale treatment. It is important to follow the advice above if you want to experience the best possible results.
